DroppLiiT: Management App for Music Managers

Project Type
UX Design
Project Year
Apr - Jun 2024
Client Name
DroppLiiT
Overview
DroppLiiT aims to build a mobile-friendly app to help music managers, artists, and venues streamline their operations. The app offers three distinct entry points based on user roles: Manager, Artist, and Venue. I focused on designing the Manager track, which is essential for managing artists and their schedules effectively.
Goal
The goal of this project is to design an intuitive music management app that allows managers to monitor artist performance metrics and manage tasks in real-time. By improving usability and accessibility, the app will help streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, and empower managers to make data-driven decisions.
Problem
Music managers often face challenges in tracking artist performance data, managing tour schedules, and coordinating with venues. Traditional management methods lack real-time updates, making it difficult for managers to stay organized and quickly adapt to changes.
Research
Revenue Growth
The music industry is expected to grow from $11.45 billion in 2022 to $19.24 billion by 2027, reflecting a 10.29% annual growth rate (CAGR). This highlights the rising opportunity for tools that streamline management.
Growing Demand for Digital Tools According to the ICMP (Institute of Contemporary Music Performance), the future of music management relies heavily on digital tools for social media engagement, streaming platform management, and data analytics.
User Pain Points
Time Management
Managing multiple artists’ schedules and performances is overwhelming without centralized tools.
Data and Analytics
A lack of actionable insights into artist performance metrics (streams, downloads, geographical hotspots) hampers decision-making.
Fragmented Tools
Music managers currently juggle multiple platforms to manage communication, finances, and artist performance data.

Our persona is a Music Manager who handles multiple artists and deals with tasks such as communication, scheduling, and financial management. His main pain point is the lack of an integrated tool to manage these responsibilities efficiently.
The goal of DroppLiiT is to streamline the workflow for music managers, allowing them to spend more time on discovering and nurturing talent rather than on administrative tasks.

Sketches

Based on the market research and user pain points, the following three features were identified as the most essential for the DroppLiiT platform. These features directly address the challenges faced by music managers, enhancing their workflow efficiency and empowering them to focus on talent growth.

Features -Must Have

Music managers often manage multiple financial tasks, including contracts, payments, and budgeting. Without a dedicated tool, errors, and inefficiencies are common, creating stress and financial mismanagement.

Contracts and Payments
Helps managers keep track of artist agreements, invoicing, and payment schedules in one place.
Budgeting
Allows managers to allocate resources for tours, recordings, and promotional activities more effectively.
Transparency and Accuracy
By automating financial processes, this feature minimizes human error and provides clear insights into financial performance, enabling better decision-making.

My Thoughts

1. Effective Communication is Key
Working on my first real client project taught me the importance of communication. Collaborating with my team required regular check-ins to keep everyone on the same page, while listening to the client’s user feedback helped us better understand their needs and refine our design solutions.

2. Balancing Functionality and Usability
I learned that it’s not just about building a working product — it also needs to be easy to use. Finding the balance between adding features and making sure the user experience stays smooth was a big takeaway for me.
